INSTRUCTIONAL INFO: How to Take A 1/4 Mile fitness Walk in Five Easy Hours (a.k.a. modern pioneer trekking)
(based on personal research acquired through cold hard experience.)
~
9:30 AM- (Note- this is when I started but any time will work) Decide that an awesome fitness walk would really do you good today! Decide you will take your 6 yr. old, 3 yr old, and 5 week old infant on an invigorating out door walk that will give you a great workout!
~
9:45am- Feed baby, give kids another round of cereal because apparently just talking about getting some exercise makes everyone ravenous.
~
10:00 am- Call your sister to invite her and her 2 yr old and 4 month old infant to join in on your outdoor exercise excursion- the more the merrier, right? (since she is in the middle of planting some flowers, and needs to finish, and still get dressed, as do you- that you will meet at the park/walking path at 11AM)
~
10am- 11am - Get yourself dressed, kids dressed, baby changed, fed one more time, double stroller in the car, 6 yr old's bike in the car, single stroller in the car, daughter's hair fixed(ponytail), water bottles, diaper bag packed, and everyone strapped into the car.
~
11:10 am- Start to DRIVE to the park/walking path. Call sis to see if she's in the car too. Nope. She's just finished planting her flowers, is extremely dirty and must rinse off before getting ready to meet you. Will be there soon. Decide to go to the playground while waiting.
~
11:20am- Everyone out of the car. Go play at playground. Talk to your Mother on cell phone fore 1/2 hour while kids play.
~
Noon- Sister calls and says she is IN the car. Will meet you at the walking path, which, conveniently, is NOT near the playground. Everyone BACK IN CAR.
~
12:15- Park, get out bike, double stroller, single stroller, baby bjorn, baby, and kids. Decide that baby is needing to be fed again and stop at a picnic table to feed babies. (with sister)
~
12:45- Potty BREAK! Walk with everyone to the nearest bathroom, which conveniently has a line of about 25 little preschool kids lined up outside the bathroom. Get to the potty and go.
~
1:05- Start walking to the walking path, while kids start to whine they are hungry for lunch.
~
1:15-Get to the PATH! Begin AWESOME fitness workout walk!! YESS!!!
~
1:30- Daughter (on bike) starts to cry that she is TOO HOT, TIRED, HUNGRY, and hates summer because it is so stinkin' hot. And cannot possibly ride for another solitary second.
~
1:45- Stop for daughter to break.
~
2:00- Daughter gets off bike and starts to walk with it, whining all the way. Kids are hot and hungry. You have now walked 1/8 th of a mile.
~
2:05- Decide to turn around. And go back. Decide this workout was good enough for today.
~
2:10-Alternately push bike/stroller while trying to coax exhausted daughter who wishes she were "small enough to go in a stroller" back to the car.
~
2:15- Almost back!! FINISHED 1/4 MILE!! YESSS!!!!
~
2:30 - All children buckled up, all items stowed, everyone sweating, hungry, and irritable. Ready to head home!
~
HURRAY! You just FINISHED a 1/4 MILE SUPER WORKOUT WALK with 3 children and 2 infants in tow!! YES!
~
The amount of calories burned in frustration alone was worth the trek.

You forgot to mention that the two year old was frantically wanting OUT of his stroller the entire time and then had to have a naked booty rush to the bathrooms as soon as we got back to the park (because he didn't want to go by a tree). There is nothin' like an exhilarating walk in the woods--as I always say.
