A Birthday Tale...
A true story.

~

Once upon a time a boy had a birthday.

In the morning of his birthday,
He snuck down to the kitchen, where he thought he saw some special treats,

most importantly something that looked exactly like a chocolate bar. So, although he was already dressed up in his Sunday best, he thought if he was careful, he might just try one tiny bite of the enticing chocolate sitting before him.

As he quickly opened the package (in hopes of no one catching him), he chomped into the thick dark chocolaty substance. ACK!!! TO his utter horror, this did not taste like the yummy chocolate he was used to!! (it was, in fact, unsweetened baker's chocolate his mummy was going to use later in the day for his cupcakes). It tasted so yucky that he forgot about keeping his clothes nice, and immediately spit the chewy mess out, which then went all over his lovely shirt and special tie his mommy had made him. With an independant spirit of wiping his face off all by himself, he immediately ran to the nearest large throw pillow on the love seat and tried to wipe the wet dark remnants from his face onto the light green pillow. Unfortunately he then realized that he needed to clean the pillow off too!!

~

So, he ran to the kitchen, got a washcloth wet, and tried to wipe off the chocolate from the now stained throw pillow. When that didn't work, he decided to just lay the washcloth onto the spot, and maybe no one would notice it! His mommy soon came down from the second floor, into the sunroom. The little boy sat quietly on the sofa, next to his stained pillow with his arms folded over his chocolaty shirt and tie. Maybe if he kept them folded tight no one could see!!

~

To the birthday boy's shock and confusion, when his mommy and daddy saw what had happened, instead of getting mad, they just started to laugh!! WHY?? Why would they do that? And they took a picture too! It was strange, but he was just glad they didn't get mad. And his mommy just got him a new shirt to wear to church. Thank goodness, too, because he was thinking his arms would get tired holding them over his shirt all day.

Later in the day, he had fun helping blow up balloons for his party. His mommy had made a big banner that said in big letters, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANE!!" He also kept running around the house exclaiming in astonishment to his mom and dad, "Can you believe I am 4 today? I just can't believe it!!" He decided to wear his spiderman suit for the party, because as he told his mommy, "My best friend Ann hasn't seen me in this before." (Later, Ann would bring him a present with a homemade card that had a picture she drew of Him wearing his spiderman suit, which he thought was really cool)

When everyone came, about 15 grown ups, and 15 kids all together... it was a wild party!! All the kids ran around his house, especially in their attic playroom, where the bouncy castle was a big hit. Throughout the party, the boy was SOOO anxious to open his gifts. He kept begging his mommy, "Can I start opening them NOW? Puuh-leeeeeze?" But his mommy made him wait and wait. He waited through all of dinner (assorted yummy salads and lots of different kinds of pizza), through all the big people just talking and talking and talking. It started to really test his patience!! Finally, his mommy called everyone around the table, and they sang "Happy Birthday" to him really loudly. He blew out his curvy candles.

His cake looked good (His mommy made SUPER Chocolately cupcakes using Ghirridelli chocolate, and they were SO rich) He had requested rainbow sprinkles with blue frosting, which really was his favorite part. But, because his patience couldn't hold out any longer, while everyone else was getting some cupcakes and ice cream, he ran off and started just tearing into all his presents- before his mommy even knew about it!! She soon realized it, and had to try to go through them all, and figure out who had given what, and say "Thank you" so everyone would know how much he really did appreciate them.

~

When everyone was ready to leave, each and every child was able to take home a special party favor that his mommy had put together. A special hello kitty bag with goodies for the big girls, a tiny hello kitty doll and matching hair thingy for the little girls, some neat board books for the little boys, and (his favorite) some cool spiderman stuff for the big boys. (His mommy stayed up until after 2 am putting it all together the night before) But, becuase they were so busy running around, cooking, socializing, and either holding or feeding his baby sister, they forgot to get hardly ANY PICTURES of ANYTHING from the party. Lucky for them daddy did get some videos.

~

His most dreamed of gift was a DASH from the Incredibles costume. (which, after trying on, and everyone was gone, he immediately took up to his room and hung next to his spiderman suit.)He also got a breastplate, shield and sword to dress up like a knight, a cool drum set, a really great robot hoodie, and even more nice presents from his friends.

It was QUITE a great day.

That Sunday morning story is hilarious. Dane is so cute! And those cupcakes (and FROSTING) were amazing!!! Thanks for such a fun party and I'm sorry to have left you with such a mess. The kids had such a blast. Kelsey LOVES her Hello Kitty necklace and bracelet and wore them to school today and had to show everyone! Thanks!!!
